Oversimplified: Volume 137
Defining taste, personal website microfeatures, and setting up your computer
Happy Thanksgiving! š¦
Oversimplified is a digest of the best links I stumble upon and any new posts from me. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. If you can, take some time today to reflect, express gratitude, and of course, eat some good food. Wishing you the best.
š Principles
This might be my favorite bulleted list of principles Iāve come across: āA cursed fact of the world is that the most important life lessons you learn are the hardest to communicate to others. They always sound like clichĆ©s. In any case, these are a few things Iāve learned from experience and that I try and keep in mind.ā
š Microfeatures I Love in Blogs and Personal Websites
If you enjoy the rabbit hole that is building, maintaining, and improving your personal website, as I do, then this post has a lot of fun inspiration to pull from. Iām bookmarking sidenotes and markers for external links for myself in particular.
š Taste Is a Guide for What Is Worthwhile
I enjoyed this post digging into the topic of ātasteā decomposing it into different types, along with how to use and develop it: āTaste goes by many names: intuition, conviction, self-trust, aesthetics. Roughly, it is the ability to make judgments about aesthetic value; to be able to tell the difference between what is and isnāt beautiful.ā
š How I Computer in 2024
Check out how Jon Seager ācomputersā including details about his entire set-up. Iām working on creating more of a playbook for setting up new machines, so I found this to have some nice inspiration baked in.
Food for Thought
"People often think that something "far off" will make them happy. That moving to a new place or getting a different job or meeting someone new will change how they feel. But happiness will always be withheld if you believe it is somewhere else. The secret is to find happiness in the people and places that are close to you. See the beauty in the things that are nearby.ā ā James Clear
Until next time
As always, if you're enjoying Oversimplified, I'd love it if you shared it with a friend or two. If anything stood out, whether good or bad, I would love to hear about it. Reply to this email orĀ tweet at meĀ and letās chat. Feels great to be back. š
Have a wonderful holiday weekend,
