Oversimplified: Volume 117
Dark matter developers, the builder's high, and running your own social
Hey there đ
Oversimplified is a digest of the best links I stumble upon each week. If youâre enjoying the newsletter, share it with a friend. If this is your first issue, welcome! You can subscribe with the big blue button below:
đ Dark Matter Developers
âThey don't read a lot of blogs, they never write blogs, they don't go to user groups, they don't tweet, and you don't often see them at large conferences. Where are these dark matter developers online?â This thinking applies to customers as well. Remember to mind the dark matter.
đ The Builderâs High
If youâre in a bit of a rut, try building something: âWhen I am in a foul mood, I have a surefire way to improve my outlook â I build something.â
đ Intro to Bayesian Methods for MMM
This post from Michael Kaminsky is really well done. Itâs true to the âintroâ promise in the title but goes deep enough to be interesting.
đ On Deck Investor Memo
I donât have any ties to On Deck but I do see them on Twitter a fair bit. I really enjoyed reading through this âopen-sourceâ version of the investor memo they raised with.
đ GPT-3 Self Serve Analytics
This demo is a cool one and was thought-provoking for me. My view is that analytics questions are a bit nuanced for this type of thing, at least right now. Iâm more interested in better search to surface historical queries.
đ Run Your Own Social
This is one of my favorite recent finds for this newsletter. Can you imagine running your own social media for a group of friends? Apparently, itâs very doable, people are doing it now, and I suspect more will follow in the future.
Food for Thought
"For me, success is not a public thing. It's a private thing. It's when you have fewer and fewer regrets." â Toni Morrison
