đ What I Wrote
Notes on Monetizing Innovation
I wrote up my notes to Monetizing Innovation by Madhavan Ramanujam this week. If youâre interested in pricing strategy at all, this book is one thatâs worth checking out.
đ What I Read
Reality Is Never Strange
âIn actuality, reality is never strange. The only reason it appears to be is because we interact with it through the lens of human consciousness, which itself has its own predispositions and attributes.â I like this message a lot.
The Stitch Fix Experimentation Platform
Stitch Fixâs data blog is always on point. This post offers a nice overview of their experimentation platform with some theory on multi-armed bandits sprinkled in along the way.
Git for Data: Not a Silver Bullet
This take from Michael Kaminsky on version control for data is really well put together. It also checks out with my experience in similar situations.
Cult Wars: The Making of a Cult Brand
This was a fun read on âcult brandsâ like Roam Research, Superhuman, and Supreme to name a few. While Iâm not sure if this is the right approach for every product, the principles make a lot of sense.
đ„ What I Found Interesting
2020 Election Forecast
Itâs far too early to read deeply into the results here, but the presentation was super interesting to me. You can tell the visualizations were picked thoughtfully to maximize understanding. Also, Fivey Fox was a nice touch.
5 Rules of Programming
Rob Pikeâs rules cover a lot of ground when it comes to effective programming. I have a feeling that if you just did these things right, you would be in good shape.
đ€ Quote I'm Pondering
Metrics, and especially averages, encourage you to focus on the middle of a market, but innovation happens at the extremes. You are more likely to come up with a good idea focusing on one outlier than on ten average users. â Rory Sutherland
